Weightlifting official definition: a competitive sport that evaluates the strength and technique of an athlete by lifting weights.
Olympic Weightlifters are broken out into bodyweight categories and compete against one another based on two lift events – the clean and jerk and the snatch.
Powerlifters are also broken out into bodyweight categories with focus given to Back Squat, Deadlift and Bench Press.
Strongman also utilizes bodyweight categories but focus is given to unique odd object lifts – Log Press, Atlas Stones, Sled and Yoke work, Strength Medleys and much more.
In layman’s terms? Athletes learn how to control every component of their bodies through intense discipline to lift heavy amounts of weight in feats of superhuman strength.
